Sapele

Entandrophragma cylindricum

The heartwood is medium to dark reddish brown when dried with a distinctive dark stripe. There are variations in the grain the texture is fairly fine.

Uses
Furniture, cabinet making, panelling, boat building, high quality joinery, doors and windows

Colouring is pale yellow to light brown, mainly straight grained. Similar to oak in appearance.

Colouring is golden brown. The texture is fairly coarse, the grain is often interlocking. A hard, strong, very durable timber.

Pterygota bequaertii

Colouring is creamy white. The grain is interlocking, texture Is moderately coarse. Often used as a substitute for beech.

The timber is creamy white to pale yellow. The texture is fine and even, the grain is often interlocked. It is quite a light timber and fairly soft.

Interior joinery, drawer sides – sometimes used as a substitute for softwood, plywood veneers

Colouring is pinkish brown to deep red brown, similar to Sapele but without the stripe, part of the same family. The grain is interlocked and irregular. The texture is moderate
